My Journey
Creativity flows through my veins, a gift from my mother, while my father instilled in me a keen business sense. When the time came to choose a university path, my heart leaned towards design. Brunel University saw my potential and offered me a place in their design program. However, some who were skeptical of a creative career, advising me to secure a 'safety net' first.
Heeding their well-intentioned advice, I pursued a degree in accounting and finance. Despite a year at Hertfordshire University working towards an online product design degree, I ultimately returned to Bournemouth to complete my finance studies. After graduation, I faced a harsh reality: my impressive portfolio was overshadowed by the lack of a formal design degree.
I persisted, applying to numerous design and advertising roles, but the response was consistent: my skills were commendable, but my credentials were lacking. Reluctantly, I entered the finance world. Even an enriching stint in Shanghai with an architectural firm couldn’t fulfill my design dreams.
Seeking solace, I turned to writing, but my true passion always drew me back to design. I launched a clothing label, S/Kill, but soon encountered significant challenges. Amidst self-doubt and external pressures, I found myself in a difficult place.
Yet, in the midst of this turmoil, a spark of creativity reignited within me. I directed my energy into designing graphic tees, painting on jeans, and eventually, customizing sneakers. This creative outlet became my lifeline. What started as a personal project evolved into Superkicksxx, a passion project born during the challenging times of COVID-19.
Superkicksxx is more than just a brand. It's a testament to resilience, a celebration of individuality, and a tribute to the names that inspire me daily – Marley and Akeera, symbolized by the two Xs. Here, every shoe tells a story, blending art and personal expression. My journey proves that even through the darkest times, we can discover our true calling.
